Tow truck at Bergen Point, NJ: the bridge approach, the dead-end streets under it, and the far end of the run
The south tip of the peninsula, from 1st Street to 8th, where Route 440 climbs onto the Bayonne Bridge and the old blocks off Broadway and Avenue C run out at the Kill Van Kull. Dennis P. Collins Park on the water, the 8th Street light rail stop and its lot, and the ramps that make this the busiest crash spot on the south end.
Ramps above, dead ends below: how the tow truck reaches a car at Bergen Point and the bridge approach
Bergen Point is the furthest part of Bayonne from Exit 14A, so the dispatcher checks first whether a truck is already on the peninsula before quoting from the yard, and the calls split into rollback work on the bridge approach, where cars get hit at the merge, and wheel-lift work on the short streets under the ramps, where a deck has no room to tilt, at the same $149 booking fee, $129 when you book online.
The Bayonne Bridge approach and the merge at the bottom
Route 440 rises off the Point onto the bridge to Staten Island, and the ramps where local traffic joins are where the rear-enders happen. A car that cannot roll after a hit here rides the rollback, winched up on whatever wheels it has and photographed for the adjuster.
Say which direction you were headed and whether you are on the approach itself or on a city street beneath it, because the two look the same from a phone and the truck comes in differently.
The streets under the ramps: 1st to 5th Street off Broadway
Short blocks that end at the water, parked on both sides, with the bridge structure overhead. A rollback cannot tilt a deck in most of them. The wheel-lift backs into the gap, lifts, and walks the car to Broadway or Avenue C, and if the drivetrain needs the flatbed the transfer happens there.
Dennis P. Collins Park and the shore
The park lot at the foot of the peninsula, the fields and the walkway facing the Kill Van Kull. A car that will not start after an evening game is a jump at one flat price. A car that has slipped off the lot edge onto soft ground is a winch-out on the rollback, and if it drives afterward that is the entire bill.
The 8th Street light rail stop and its lot
The southern end of the Hudson-Bergen line, with a surface lot that fills with commuters by seven. Most evening calls here are a battery that sat all day. When the car has to go to a shop, the lot is open-air, so either truck loads in the row, and a garage on Broadway is a short run north.
Hit on the bridge approach or boxed in under it? Say which. The right truck comes to the Point.

Call nowBergen Point: common questions
Short answers to what people ask about this page; the dispatcher can answer the rest.
How long does a tow truck take to reach Bergen Point?
It is the far end of the city from Exit 14A, so from the yard it is the full 25 minutes plus the length of the peninsula. A truck already in Bayonne or Jersey City is usually much nearer, and the dispatcher quotes from wherever that truck actually is.
I was rear-ended on the Bayonne Bridge approach. Which truck comes?
The rollback, because a hit car often cannot roll straight and has to be winched up the deck. It goes to the body shop you name, photographed panel by panel, with no storage yard in between.
Can a flatbed get down the streets under the bridge?
It can drive them but rarely load in them, because there is no room to tilt the deck between parked cars. The wheel-lift walks the car to Broadway first, and the transfer to the flatbed is inside the booking fee.
My car will not start in the 8th Street lot. Is that a tow?
Usually a jump start, one flat price and no mileage. If the battery will not hold, the tow is added at the flat rate with the truck already in the lot.
